On your own terms.

The role

What does a Newbridge Care
Private Personal Assistant do?

Our Private Personal Assistants provide practical, non-clinical support to clients in their own homes, helping people live comfortably and independently, with a trusted, reliable presence by their side.

Companionship & welfare

Regular visits for social connection, conversation, and wellbeing check-ins. One of the most meaningful things you can offer a client living alone.

Shopping & errands

Collecting prescriptions, grocery shopping, posting letters, the everyday tasks that make a real difference to independence and peace of mind.

Light household support

Laundry, ironing, light cleaning and tidying. Helping clients maintain the home they want.

Meal preparation

Simple, nutritious meals prepared in the client's own home, supporting good nutrition and the pleasure of home-cooked food.

Medication reminders

Prompting clients to take their prescribed medication at the right time. This is a reminder and prompting service only. No administration of any kind.

Transport & accompanied trips

Accompanying clients to appointments, shops, or social outings, available if you hold appropriate business-use motor insurance on your own vehicle.

  • You work locally and we never ask you to travel long distances
  • You are free to work alongside other organisations simultaneously

  • You are backed by a team with real NHS and social care experience

A couple of straightforward steps to get started

As a self-employed partner, you will need to register as self-employed with HMRC so your earnings are properly managed, it is a quick online process and HMRC's step-by-step guide is at gov.uk/working-for-yourself. You can register directly at gov.uk/register-for-self-assessment. You will also need to hold public liability insurance of at least £2 million, which is straightforward to arrange and typically costs as little as £60–90 a year. We will point you to the right providers when you apply. Our team is happy to walk you through both of these during your onboarding, you will not be doing any of it alone.

Questions answered

Frequently asked
questions

Can I do this alongside another job?

Yes. Because you are self-employed, you are free to work for other organisations at the same time, provided this does not conflict with any existing employment agreement you may have. Please let us know during your application if you are employed elsewhere.

Do I need care qualifications for Home Support roles?

No formal care experience or qualifications are required for Home Support roles. We look for kindness, reliability, and common sense above all. Our induction will give you everything you need to start with confidence.

Where can I get public liability insurance?

We point you to providers who offer affordable cover, typically from around £60–90 per year for £2m cover. Popular options include Markel UK, Hiscox, and Simply Business. We share all the details when you apply, and our team will help you through it.

How do I pay tax as a self-employed person?

You register with HMRC as self-employed and complete a Self Assessment tax return each year. As a guide, set aside approximately 20–25% of your gross earnings for tax depending on your personal circumstances. HMRC's help guide is at gov.uk/self-employed-national-insurance-rates. We recommend speaking to an accountant if you are new to self-employment.

How quickly could I get my first client?

Most people are matched with their first client within 2–3 weeks of applying, once references and DBS checks are complete. The main variable is how quickly your DBS check returns, standard applications usually come back within 5–10 working days.

What if a situation with a client concerns me?

You will never be left to manage a difficult situation alone. Our induction covers safeguarding and escalation clearly, and a Newbridge Care coordinator is always reachable during working hours. We will give you clear guidance on what to do in any situation before your first client introduction.

Can I choose which area I work in?

Yes. You tell us your postcode or local area and we only introduce you to clients who are near you. We will never ask you to travel unreasonable distances, and you are always free to decline any introduction for any reason.
